There were about 25 waxwings that flew into the trees and bushes alongside our yard. They were more stylish than skittish, so a photographer who didn’t own anything larger than a 200-mm lens (me) was able to get close enough to capture some of their intriguing details.
Last week, I caught this downy woodpecker feeding in the ash tree in the backyard.
Yesterday was a nice winter day, with the temperature approaching the 50s, so I stood out in the backyard for about forty minutes, looking for any birds that might happen to fly or land close enough to photograph with a 55-200mm lens.
I don’t actually know if everyone loves hummingbirds, but I’ve never met anyone who dislikes them. They are amazing creatures, so it’s neat that they are also common birds. This week I was able to photograph two hummingbirds (I’m not completely sure of the types, so don’t want to misidentify them). Here are the best of those photos.
