ast week, I caught this downy woodpecker as it was feeding in the ash tree in the backyard.It visits frequently and doesn’t mind people being nearby, but it is still a challenge to photograph because of all the branches that can get in the way. For these images, I climbed into the tree and waited for the woodpecker to land on a low branch, which it eventually did.
What is that?
I thought it had a bug at first, but it looks more like some wood shavings.
I wonder if this is the same downy woodpecker that was around last year. If it is, welcome back!
