Spring Jumpers

I

f you don’t like spiders, perhaps only jumping spiders could convince you otherwise. With their big eyes, spiked hair, and occasional crazy colors, they just might be the stars of the invertebrate world. I’ve photographed a lot of jumping spiders over the past month, so I selected nine of my current favorites to share this week. Most of these are the same species – Phidippus audax – which are identified by their colorful chelicerae (mouth parts). They seem to be the most common kind of jumping spider in the backyard.
